Whatis the Dutch Test?

The Dutch Complete and Dutch Cycle Mapping tests are a comprehensive hormone panel that we use in our clinic to assess various hormone imbalance in our clients

The DUTCH test is a urine steroid hormone profile that measures hormones and hormone metabolites  in a dried urine sample, and is performed from the comfort of your home. It is the most cutting-edge way to truly see what’s going on when it comes to your hormones, because it doesn’t just measure hormones, but also something called “metabolites”, which are a measurement of hormone production and hormone breakdown.

Measuring both hormones and their metabolites can give you or your health care practitioner a much better overall picture of hormone production. For example, a DUTCH urine steroid hormone profile on someone with low salivary cortisol could show normal cortisol production, but high levels of metabolites. In other words, this would
indicate that you are producing enough cortisol, but it’s just getting broken down into its metabolites very quickly.

What are the advantages of the Dutch Test?

Comprehensive Hormone Assessment:

  • Multiple Hormones: DUTCH testing offers a detailed profile of hormones, including cortisol, cortisone, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and their metabolites.
  • Metabolites: By measuring hormone metabolites, DUTCH testing provides crucial insights into how hormones are processed in the body, aiding in the understanding of hormonal imbalances and metabolic pathways.

Convenience and Ease of Collection:

  • Non-Invasive: The test uses dried urine samples, which can be easily collected at home without needing blood draws.
  • Multiple Samples: The process involves taking multiple samples over 24 hours, giving a comprehensive view of hormone fluctuations throughout the day.

Adrenal Function Insight:

  • Diurnal Cortisol Pattern: DUTCH testing tracks the diurnal pattern of cortisol production, helping diagnose issues like adrenal fatigue, chronic stress, or abnormal cortisol rhythms.
  • Cortisol Metabolism: By measuring both free cortisol and metabolized cortisol, it provides a complete picture of adrenal function and potential dysfunctions.

Sex Hormone Metabolism:

  • Estrogen Metabolites: The test measures various estrogen metabolites, offering insights into estrogen metabolism and risks related to estrogen dominance or estrogen-related cancers.
  • Progesterone and Androgens: It assesses progesterone and androgen levels, helping identify issues like PCOS, low testosterone, or other hormonal imbalances.

Sleep Hormone Analysis:

  • Melatonin: DUTCH testing includes melatonin measurements, which can assist in diagnosing sleep disorders and issues related to circadian rhythm disruptions.

Actionable Insights for Treatment:

  • Personalized Treatment Plans: The detailed hormone and metabolite profiles from DUTCH testing help healthcare practitioners develop more personalized and effective treatment plans.
  • Tracking Progress: The test allows for monitoring the effectiveness of interventions over time, as repeated testing can show changes and improvements in hormone levels.

Integrated Health Insights:

  • Comprehensive View: By integrating adrenal, sex, and sleep hormones, DUTCH testing provides a holistic view of a patient’s hormonal health, which is valuable in understanding complex health issues and systemic imbalances.
