Women’s Health
A Functional Medicine Approach to Women's Health
Many women face unique health challenges that can cause a lot of distress if they continue to persist. At the London Centre for functional medicine, our experienced practitioners can address many of these conditions by looking at underlying factors causing the imbalance that are contributing to your symptoms.
Many women’s health issues are related to their cycles, imbalanced hormones, reproductive health, fertility, or different stages of menopause. If any of these types of symptoms are part of your life, we can provide you with extensive personalised testing and treatment plans to meet your health goals so you can enjoy life to its fullest.
Causes
Factors that your practitioner will look to consider include the following
- Are hormones out of balance or sub-optimal?
- Are genetic factors involved?
- Are there low levels of inflammation present?
- Do you have food intolerances?
- What is your nutrient status like?
- Is the immune system compromised?
- What is your toxic load like?
- Are there hidden viral infections such as Epstein Barr present?
We will also look to take a detailed history and see what other health conditions and factors that are contributing to your symptoms, so we can piece together any information that can help determine the imbalance.

Our treatment protocols vary with each patient based on a number of factors, and our experienced practitioners will work with you to identify your goals and then help identify imbalances or barriers tor optimizing health. Hormone imbalance can often be the root cause of women’s health conditions and can be a major contributing factor to feeling low with energy, weight gain, inability to sleep, irregular menses, post and perimenopausal symptoms (hot flashes, brain fog) and mood imbalances.
Your functional medicine practitioner will be able to utilise some of the most sensitive testing methods to better understand your current issues combined with a treatment plan to restore hormonal balance, ease symptoms, and restore your health. Treatment can include nutrition, some lifestyle modifications inlcuding stress management and sleep hygiene, and some of the best fertility supplements (where needed) in conjunction with the use of bio-identical hormone therapy (BHRT).
Approach
Optimal Nutrition and Absorption
Imbalances to our digestive system can cause a host of unwanted symptoms. As we age our abilty to absorb food decreases. Any dysfunction can lead to a number of issues related to detoxification and nutrient defiency.
Supplement Support
Depending on the condition, your practitioner can recommend some targeted supplements (including fertility supplements) to help support the body, reduce deficiencies, enhance detoxification pathways and enhance liver and adrenal function which are often contributing factors to imbalances in women's health.
Testing
We work on the motto of testing rather than guessing which can be quicker and cheaper in the long run. Our practitioners can recommend specific testing related to hormone health, such as the adrenal stress profile or the Dutch test.
Targeted Treatments
Our practitioners can recommendation additional treatment or lifestyle interventions that have proven effects to help you overcome specific conditions.
